Join the NAFCC Policy Council
Family child care educators are the backbone of our nation’s child care system — yet too often, policies are made without the voices of the educators who know the system best.
The National Association for Family Child Care (NAFCC) is launching its first-ever Policy Council, and we are inviting passionate leaders from the family child care community to help shape how NAFCC represents you at federal policy tables.
This is your opportunity to ensure that family child care voices are at the table where decisions are made.
What Is the NAFCC Policy Council?
The Policy Council is a national advisory group that helps inform NAFCC’s advocacy and policy priorities. Council members work together to:
Provide insight on policies impacting family child care.
Review proposed legislation and policy changes.
Share real experiences from family child care programs.
Identify challenges and solutions affecting providers and families.
Help ensure policies reflect the realities of home-based child care.
Your lived experience and expertise will help guide the future of family child care policy.
Who Should Apply?
We are looking for 12-15 leaders from across the country who care deeply about strengthening family child care.
We especially encourage applications from:
- Family child care educators
- Educators serving diverse communities
- Rural, urban, and tribal communities
- Programs of different sizes and licensing types
- Educators working with subsidy programs
- Advocates and leaders supporting home-based child care
At least 75% of the Council will be family child care educators.
You do not need to be a policy expert.
If you care about improving the system and are willing to share your perspective, we want to hear from you.
What Does Participation Look Like?
Policy Council members will:
Serve a 2–3 year term
Participate in monthly virtual meetings
Serve on at least one working subcommittee
Provide feedback on policy issues affecting family child care
Collaborate with NAFCC leadership and staff
Why Join the Policy Council?
As a member, you will:
- Help shape policies impacting family child care nationwide
- Elevate the voices of educators in national conversations
- Build leadership and advocacy experience
- Connect with a national network of family child care leaders
- Be part of a historic first Policy Council at NAFCC
- Inform NAFCC’s rapid response strategies.
Together, we can build policies that support educators, strengthen small businesses, and expand quality child care for families.
