NAFCC Observer Job Description
What does a NAFCC Observer do?
A NAFCC observer completes an on-site and/or virtual observation of accreditation operational practices that align with the accreditation quality standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Respect and understand the NAFCC Accreditation process and its history and observation procedures and process.
- Observe the applicant and the application of their skills and operation practices in their FCC environment.
- Use the Observer Workbook to accurately document the application of the quality standards.
- Prepare the observation report and submit the required documents within the agreed timeline.
- Utilize good communication, organizational, time management, and interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with NAFCC staff and accreditation candidates.
- Summarize the applicant’s understanding of the accreditation quality standards during the observation process.
- Adhere to and apply the NAEYC Code of Ethical Conduct.
- Maintain required training as determined by NAFCC
- Maintain confidentiality of records
- Have an ability to separate your role as an observer from other professional roles.
- Recognize the importance of distinguishing between your personal definitions of quality versus those established by the accreditation standards.
- Be respectful of differing perspectives and cultures.
- Be unbiased and have the ability to not impose personal biases when conducting an applicant’s observation.
NAFCC Observer Eligibility Requirements
NAFCC values the role of an Observer as a critical link in the accreditation process.
Minimum requirements for observer applicants:
- Be a member of the National Association for Family Child Care
- Be at least 21 years old
- Must commit to a full 2-day training that will be held on October 21and June 22, 2023
- Possess technical knowledge and tools to conduct observations virtual and in-person
- Able to conduct a minimum of 3 observations per year
- Available to travel (up to 100 miles or more if necessary) to conduct observations
Applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Possess a minimum of one year of experience conducting training for adult learners.
- Participation in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or related training courses in three of the past five years
Applicants must meet one of the following requirements:
- Have a high school diploma with a minimum of 10 years’ experience in Early Childhood Education; or
- Be a degreed professional with a minimum of 5 years’ experience in the field; or
- Be CDA credentialed with a minimum of 5 years’ experience in the Early Childhood Care field
Observer compensation for completed observations:
$125.00 per observation, plus mileage, hotel and travel reimbursement based upon pre-approval.
